🐄 Good udder health contributes to conscious antibiotic use

Introduction:
Antimicrobial resistance is a term which is widely used these days, and with good reason. It is the phenomenon where one or more types of antimicrobials become ineffective or less effective against a particular bacterium. This is caused by inappropriate use (too often or in the wrong way). The ineffectiveness of an antimicrobial against a pathogenic bacterium can have major consequences for the health and welfare of both humans and animals. It has as consequence that certain treatments fail in some situations or that complications arise after surgery that were previously easily treatable. According to the predictions of the World Health Organization (WHO), almost 2 million people will die every year by 2050 due to antimicrobial resistance. This global problem requires urgent action in human and animal health and in the environment. This means the need for less and a more responsible antimicrobial use. Actions to use antimicrobials more consciously are also being taken in veterinary medicine and the agricultural sector.
